Judges Lodgings Hotel & Bar - York
Our project in the center of York was without a doubt one of our toughest challenges yet. A complete refurbishment of the historic Judges Lodgings. Our works were a key part to keeping this project on track.
The Judge’s Lodgings are a large townhouse on Lendal which were for 170 years the official residence for judges attending the nearby Assizes Courts.
The work was carried out in 1 day to allow other trades access. A catalyst was added to the resin bound mix to speed up the cure of the materials. 198sm of resin bound was laid and cured to walk on in just over 6 hours.
The main contractor was William Anelay of York.

The Pods Leisure Center - Scunthorpe
This surfacing extended to an area in excess of 4,000m².
The work involved removing a defective surfacing system and replacing it with our Bound Aggregate system using Autumn Gold aggregate.
The work was spread over two winters, but we were able to progress well because of the ability of the resin to tolerate poor weather conditions.
The main contractore was Bowmer and Kirkland.
The client was South Lincolnshire Council.

Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome - Glasgow
Imagine our excitement when we were asked to provide almost 200m² of Bound Aggregate to the plaza of the new Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow - and in purple GLASS aggregate!
The excitement was tempered somewhat when we realised that our surfacing would be in dozens of 500mm wide strips rather than an impressive visually stunning single area.
Well, we have to give the Architect his due. The strips set off the stone paving and add a splash of colour to the vast expanse of grey.
Just for fun:
Take a time to watch at least the first few minutes of this video where Sir Chris Hoy meets Danny MacAskill the professional street trials rider showing his skills. In some shots you can actually see our purple glass - but you need to be sharp eyed because there'r tiny.

Dundasvale - Glasgow
A complete overhaul of flats were given a new lease of life when main contractors Land Engineering were given the task.
Woodroyd were then called in for discussions to provided options for the main footpaths through the development. Over 5000 sm of paths were treated with Resin Bonded (coat & scatter) with an aggregate mix of Autumn Gold 1-3mm.
The project, on the outskirts of the city of Glasgow took 4 months to complete as access to the site was made difficult due to it being 2 floors up with a car park underneath.
The Main Contractors were Land Engineering.
The Client was Glasgow City Council.

York City Council Offices - Public Art Work
When Matthew Lazenby was commissioned to produce an art work to be placed in front of the restored railway station in York which was to be used by the City Council to replace over a dozen offices in different parts of the town, he developed a series of almost complete concentric circles inscribed with quotations from the work of W H Auden who was born in York in 1907.
The spaces between the stainless steel plates needed to be filled with a suitable granular paving. After research Matthew approached Woodroyd with a view to installing Bound Aggregate to match the material that the company had installed in adjacent parts of the refurbishment.
This was only a small area but the work required a degree of care and attention to detail .

City of York Council Headquarters - Paving

When we were approached by Miller Construction we thought we had an insurmountable problem.
There was in excess of 1,400m² of Bound Aggregate Paving required - some to pedestrian areas and cycle park under a refurbished railway canopy (part of the old York Railway Station) but most on a public road that would have to take not only foot traffic and cars but coaches and the occasional truck delivering bio fuel to the council office. The truck was the potential problem, as it had to do a three point turn on the Bound Aggregate! However in consultation with our supplier, Adbruf, we designed a super-strong version of their Geopave system by using a special grading of aggregate and slightly more adhesive resin than usual. |

Netherwood A L C Barnsley
In 2011, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council began discussions with Woodroyd Contract Services Limited about ideas and products that could be used to create a design in the middle of a roundabout on the new approach junction to the new Netherwood Advanced Learning Center in Wombwell.
Woodroyd offered both Resin Bound and Resin Bonded Surfacing solutions to the principal contractor, Laing O Rourke, for submission to the Council. The Council eventually chose a "compass" design and chose Woodroyd Contract Services Ltd as their specialist sub-contractor to carry out the installation. Budget restraints demanded the Resin Bonded option rather than the Resin Bound. (Ckick here for an explanation of the difference between Resin Bound and Resin Bonded.) |
Adtex resin was used to provide an attractive, aesthetically pleasing and durable paving system. The main background colour was silver grey granite. Bright red, blue and dark ruby were used as the main colours of the compass. The silver grey has a slight sparkle in sunlight.
